The Challenge
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Chapel, built in 1866, stands as a cherished historical and spiritual landmark for the community of Hancock County. However, the chapel’s aging infrastructure brought a significant challenge: the building had no air conditioning.
During Ohio summers, interior temperatures soared, making services uncomfortable, especially for older parishioners. The lack of cooling also limited the chapel’s ability to host weddings and special events, impacting both engagement and growth within the congregation.
With a historic structure to preserve and an active parish community of more than 3,200 families, upgrading the mechanical systems required a thoughtful and innovative solution.
The Solution
All-Star Plumbing, Heating & Cooling partnered closely with the parish to design and install a cooling system that respected the chapel’s architectural integrity while delivering full comfort and coverage:
- Air Conditioning Installation – Multiple high-efficiency condensers were installed outside the chapel, seamlessly integrated with the historic exterior.
- New Airflow Infrastructure – Brand-new ductwork and registers were added to deliver even cooling throughout the sanctuary.
- Specialized Comfort Zones – Ductless mini-splits were installed in the organ/choir loft to support musicians and maintain instrument performance during services and events.
The Result
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Chapel now offers:
- Consistent Cooling throughout the sanctuary and loft
- Improved attendee comfort, particularly for elderly parishioners
- Enhanced event opportunities, with renewed interest from wedding parties and special event organizers
- Community revitalization, encouraging both participation and parish membership
This transformation empowers the chapel to better serve its growing community and support the continued ministry of Hancock County’s only Roman Catholic parish, a foundation that dates back to 1834.
