The Challenge
Originally constructed in 1908, the historic Odd Fellows Building in downtown Indianapolis stands as one of the city’s first high-rise structures. After more than a century of use, the building required extensive modernization to meet today’s hospitality standards all while preserving its architectural charm and historic integrity. Purchased in 2017, the building is being transformed into a Kimpton Hotel. The scope and prestige of this $85 million redevelopment demanded precise craftsmanship and reliable systems that could meet the expectations of a modern, 4-star boutique hotel experience.
The Solution
Bell Plumbing was selected to design and install a complete plumbing system tailored to the demands of this large-scale renovation combining efficiency, functionality, and aesthetics within a historic structure. The scope of work includes:
- Installation of all new supply and waste piping
- Equipping individual bathrooms with high-end fixtures, energy-efficient water heaters, and pressure-balanced systems for optimal comfort and consistency
- Full plumbing systems for the ground-floor restaurant and rooftop bar, including commercial-grade sinks, grease interceptors, beverage lines, and specialized drainage solutions
All while keep code compliance and efficiency in mind with the integration of modern plumbing technology to meet current building codes while optimizing water conservation and system performance.
Bell Plumbing worked in close coordination with engineers, architects, and the general contractor to ensure every detail aligned with Kimpton’s luxury brand standards and the unique structural requirements of this early 20th-century building.

While the redevelopment is still ongoing, the Kimpton Hotel at the historic Odd Fellows Building is already poised to become one of Indianapolis’ premier hospitality destinations. Upon completion, the hotel will feature:
- 164 beautifully appointed guest rooms with modern plumbing amenities
- High-end dining and entertainment spaces, including a meeting and ballroom space for special events
